Sick Child Policy

Sick Child Policy

At Willow Academy, we are committed to maintaining a healthy and safe environment for all children and staff. To minimize the spread of illness, we require that sick children remain at home under the care of a parent or guardian when they are ill or contagious.

Children Must Stay Home If They Have:

  • A fever of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher

  • Vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours

  • Contagious diseases (e.g., strep throat, pink eye, chickenpox, COVID-19, hand-foot-and-mouth disease)

  • A rash that is undiagnosed or suspected to be contagious

  • Any condition that prevents the child from participating comfortably in activities

Returning to Daycare

Children may return when:

  • They have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication

  • Vomiting and diarrhea have stopped for 24 hours

  • A doctor clears them to return (if required)

  • Symptoms have improved and the child can comfortably participate in normal activities

A doctor's note may be required for certain illnesses.

Notification

Parents must notify the daycare if their child is diagnosed with a contagious illness so that appropriate measures can be taken to inform other families (while maintaining confidentiality).

On-Site Illness

If a child becomes ill while at daycare:

  • The child will be separated from the group and supervised

  • Parents will be contacted immediately and are expected to pick up their child within 1 hour

Medication

We do not administer medication unless a medication authorization form is completed and signed by a parent and physician (if applicable).
